Defensive Driving Kuala Lumpur Training 17 Dec 2011

The Problem

More than 63,000 people were killed on the Malaysian roads for the past 10 years (2001 to 2010)1. For the same period, up to 415,000 people were injured and many remain disabled and scarred for life, both physically and mentally.

In Malaysia
1. Teens are dying younger on the road (FY2007)2
2. 18.8 death on the road every day (FY2010)3
3. 58.8 injured on the road every day ((FY2010)3

In a recent US research, it was found that text messaging on cell phone while driving increased your crash risks by 23 times.4 However, our local drivers still feel they can multi-tasks while driving.
Here’s what is new, TEXT and DRIVE is equal to DRUNK DRIVING. A recent simulator study showed that drivers on the cell phones look but fail to see up to 50% of the information in the driving environment.5 This study makes sense, doesn’t it?

This distraction is one of the major causes of accidents. Accidents cause loss and suffering to the victims and their loved ones, employers and our society.

The Solution

Road traffic injuries are preventable. You, your family, your social network and your company can take actions to increase road safety awareness. You can start by wearing crash helmet, if you are on a 2-wheeler and ensure all occupants in your vehicle is belt up before driving. Yes, with this I mean private van, school van, MPV, buses and school buses.
Secondly, you can start gaining more insights into good road safety habits and learn to be a Defensive Driver.

Finally, we hope you can share this message with your friends in your Facebook wall and give support to increase road safety awareness. Take action now, Together we can save some lives.

OPS SIKAP 24 - Not to be blamed

OPS SIKAP 24 - Not to be blamed
The main causes of all accidents is the attitude of unsafe motorists and drivers habits ; Ops Sikap 24 is not to be blamed. Firstly, Malaysian road users must recognize that there are too many road deaths. With this awareness all stakeholders must make a conscientious effort to make road safety a priority and a culture in Malaysia.
Extracted from www.thestar.com.my
"KUALA LUMPUR: An increase in the number of vehicles on roads throughout the country has been identified as the main reason for the failure of Ops Sikap 24 to reduce accidents and fatalities during the festive season from Aug 23 to Sept 6.
Kuala Lumpur Traffic Chief ACP Rusli Mohd Noor said Wednesday that, apart from the attitude or behaviour of motorists, an increase in the volume of traffic had contributed to an increase in the number of accidents and fatalities.
"Throughout the festival season this year about 20 million vehicles had used the roads compared with 18 million last year," he told Bernama Wednesday.
Rusli said during Ops Sikap 24, 19,606 accidents were registered compared with 16,817 cases last year, an increase of 16.5 percent while the number of deaths increased from 248 last year to 289 this year.
He said top on the list of fatalities were motorcyclists with 178, followed by motorists on cars (67), pedestrians (20), van (7), lorry (6), other vehicles (6) and cycle (5).
